Ja’ Grill is a great find in Hyde Park. The atmosphere is lively, the music is on point, and the booths make the whole space feel comfortable and inviting. It’s the kind of place you settle into easily.
Our server was a standout. Friendly, attentive, and refreshingly honest. When we asked whether the portions were generous, she said yes and she meant it. That kind of straightforwardness goes a long way.
I had the chicken curry, which came well portioned with rice, lentils, cabbage, and carrots, plus four good pieces of chicken and potatoes. The flavor was solid and satisfying.
My boyfriend went with the oxtail plate, which was enormous. He was very hungry and left full. It’s a unique spin on a classic, not the most traditional preparation, but it holds its own.
Highly recommend if you’re in the Hyde Park area. Plenty of street parking on Park Boulevard, and the neighborhood itself is worth the trip.

I went there with my bestie Friday. The food was amazing. We had enough to take home, ate it the next day and it still had such great flavors. The server and the hostess were very friendly and attentive. Food was piping hot! So I know it was fresh. Will definitely be back again!

I had the curry Chicken .. rice & peas ..cornbread ..
Plantains..white Potatoes .. chocolate & Plain Rum cakes ..coffee .. hard sourdough bread ..everything was fresh & very flavorful without being overwhelming with so many different ingredients ... both rum cakes were good ... nice lively colorful decor ...OQ

It felt like I was in New Orleans just sitting at this restaurant and enjoying my time here.

We had an absolutely amazing time at this Jamaican restaurant! The food was beyond incredible—we had oxtail, catfish, lamb, and jerk chicken, all perfectly seasoned and tender. But let me tell you, the rice and peas stole the show. I’ve had plenty before, but this one? To die for. Easily the best I’ve ever had. The cabbage salad was so fresh and melted in my mouth, the perfect balance to the richness of the dishes.
I had a rum punch that was dangerously smooth and delicious, and for dessert, a chocolate rum cake that completely surprised me. I usually don’t like chocolate, but this was so well made, I didn’t even realize it had alcohol in it. Just rich, moist perfection.🤤
Priscilla, our server, was warm and attentive, and Carter, who I believe was the manager, kept checking in to make sure everything was great. The service made the experience even better.🥰
Truly a 10/10 evening. We’ll definitely be back!
